10th Annual Fall Conference
Posted by Michele Fidance on September 28th, 2016
The 10th Annual Central Florida Students In Action Conference kicked off on Saturday, September 24th with nearly 70 students from Lake, Brevard, and Orange counties gathering to the Brevard School District Office for a day of service, leadership, and learning. Students from the LEAD Scholars Academy at the University of Central Florida, led by Faith Burns, facilitated the conference with great energy and passion for the topics. The LEAD Scholars Academy at UCF is a selective two year program for students committed to academic excellence and making a difference in the world around them, and is known for its members contributing thousands of hours of community service around the University and Central Florida community each year.
The goal of the Students in Action Leadership Conference was to challenge the high school student leaders and develop leadership, communication, and problem solving skills while building cross-cultural bonds and preparing them for active, contributing roles in their communities. Students attending the conference learned about teamwork, creating and measuring impact, effective communication, and marketing and using media through a variety of activities and workshops.
The conference also provided an opportunity for students to engage in service to the local community. Attendees brought in over 1,300 items that were donated to Crosswinds Youth Services and Nemours Hospital in Orlando.
Thank you to the following high schools for sending representatives to be a part of this year’s Student in Action conference: Bayside High School, Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School, Cornerstone Charter Academy, Edgewood Jr/Sr High School, Eustis High School, Leesburg High School, Melbourne High School, and Mount Dora High School.
