LEAD360 National Winner to attend State of the Union
The 2015 LEAD360 Delaware winner is headed to Washington, D.C. to attend President Obama’s State of the Union address as Mrs. Obama’s guest on January 12, 2016. Braeden Mannering is the creator of the 3B (Brae’s Brown Bags) program. He gave out his first brown bag with an umbrella, a water bottle, two fruit snacks bags, a bag of chips, and a granola bar in July 2013 after seeing “homeless people holding up signs that they needed food and shelter.” Organizations and individuals all across the U.S. have joined Braeden in carrying out his BIG IDEA and there have been 4,610 Brae’s Brown Bags handed out to date. “What started as one brown bag branched off into multiple important directions including: three specialty bags, giving talks to groups about food insecurity with a special interest in talking with youth and in raising money to help other hunger relief organizations,” says Braeden about the growth of his project. This is not Braeden’s first meeting with the First Lady as he was invited to the White House Kids’ “State Dinner” as part of the First Lady’s Let’s Move! campaign before he even started the 3B program.
